A burl, or burr, is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in an unusual manner. Burls often produce small knots that can be used to enhance wood veneer. At Oakwood Veneer we carry a great selection of burl veneers including ash, elm, maple, oak and walnut. Carpathian elm burls range in color from light tan to a dark red brick and can be used for special furniture pieces you want to stand out from the other furnishings in your home. Heavy maple burl has a pink tone with tight clusters and a desirable figure making it a great veneer sheet to use for cabinets, furniture and table tops. Oak burls are known for its superior strength, coarse grain and a swirly grain patterns that make it an ideal choice for unique pieces of furniture.
