Wood Veneer for Antique and Retro Furniture Restoration

beth-mondor-21.jpg

Woodworkers involved in antique and retro product and furniture restoration can find an exceptional product in wood veneer. Many veneer species are uniquely designed to faithfully represent architecture and design of specific time periods.

For example, varying grades of Quartered Flake White Oak were exceptionally popular at the turn of the 20th century. Pine, Spruce, and Douglas Fir are excellent choices for rustic, western, and farmhouse themes. Knotty pine veneer, in particular, makes an excellent choice if you’re going for an early farmhouse or colonial aesthetic, as well as white pine veneer, as this species was supposedly widely used in the East during the colonial period.

Burl wood veneer also makes a really great choice. Wood burls were particularly popular within the Art Deco movement that rose during the Roaring Twenties, and burl veneer is a great way to make economic use of these prized cuts. And Crotch Mahogany and burls such as Walnut Burl and Madrone Burl have been popular for centuries in the highest end stately designs, along with maple burlmappa burl, and oak burl.
