Are certain veneers best for kitchen cabinets?

I’m having some kitchen cabinets custom made for me. Are there certain veneer species that would work best for them?

Answer:

There are a few considerations to make. One is how the veneer is to be applied to the substrate, whether the cabinet maker is using a press or using contact cement to apply the veneer will dictate the type of backer needed for the gluing application. Two is a matter of choice related to species desired. Three is a matter of overall look of the finished cabinets, whether the cabinets have to all match exactly or if the need to appear as an continuous run from one end to the other or in a vertical fashion in which certain species depending on the size of the log can yield a larger number of matching sheets in sequence.
